This residential development is situated on a brownfield site that is created by demolishing 5 separate dwellings and consolidating the land into a single development site. The proposals were developed over several months through a series of meetings with the local planning and highways departments. The scheme provides 20 2-bedroom flats with associated cycle and car parking set within landscaped gardens.

The proposed building forms a continuous 3-storey perimeter block, broken only by a ‘carriage arch’ to give cars access into the site. To reduce the overall massing of the development the façade is stepped and 2-storey bays are used to help articulate the corners of the building. The informal composition of window openings creates a domestic urban architectural language, which is appropriate for the site and which relates to the neighbouring buildings.

Within the site, the buildings create a semi-private courtyard. The use of shared surfaces creates a pedestrian friendly environment. It is a secure and well-overlooked area bounded by planting and hedges. The proximity to the park mitigates the lack of amenity space.
