The Lauriston Housing Redevelopment project brings high quality contemporary housing to the centre of Basingstoke. The brownfield site lies on the edge of the town centre between long standing residential properties and the commercial centre. The scheme provides 64 mixed tenure flats arranged within four separate blocks on a narrow urban site. The arrangement of the blocks in terraced streets which open out into small courtyards has been designed to allow good surveillance, and to maximise sunlight within the site. The result is an attractive sequence of shared external spaces.

The architecture is based on a simple palette of materials, with restrained elegant facades and simple robust detailing. Materials were chosen for long life, low maintenance and high quality.

The development has won two civic awards for design and layout. The scheme was also shortlisted for both an RIBA Award and an Evening Standard Housing Design Award.
