AMANDA SELORMEY // architectural DESIGNER

BA(Hons)

hOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT JESSOP AND COOK ARCHITECTS AND WHAT PROJECTS DO YOU WORK ON?

I joined Jessop and Cook about 4 years into my career, and so far I’ve been working on a range of local community and mixed-use projects around Oxford. It's great to see the variety of projects that we do and people that we work with.

I am also helping to strategise the social media and branding within the practice.

what specific areas are you interested in developing within jessop and cook ARCHITECTS?

My experience so far has been rooted in the residential sector, particularly around Passivhaus and sustainable design. After graduating, I also took part in Design and Build project - Ranwas Primary School in Vanuatu - which helped me to understand how impactful design can shape cohesive and progressive communities. I discovered the thing that was missing in my career was designing for communities which is why I was interested in working with Jessop and Cook.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING IN YOUR SPARE TIME?

I find pleasure in simple things like listening to music or watching a classic film. I also co-host the 1:100 Architecture Podcast where we share relatable stories from across the architecture profession. Our guests have included Professor Lesley Lokko and Francis Kéré, whose Gando Primary School project first inspired me to pursue architecture. Each guest inspires me to help others understand who they are through their own unique journeys. Outside of that, I get involved in causes I care about (like the CEO Sleepout for homelessness) and occasionally help out with events at my church.
