barnaby turner // part II architectural assistant

BSc (Hons), MArchD

How LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT JESSOP AND COOK ARCHITECTS AND WHAT PROJECTS DO YOU WORK ON?

I joined Jessop & Cook as a Part II Architectural Assistant in July 2022 after finishing my Masters degree here at Oxford Brookes. I also worked alongside my studies at a Quantity Surveying practice in Bristol, and for myself designing a number of residential extensions across Oxford and the South West.

At Jessop & Cook, I am working on a range of projects including laboratory, residential, and community.

WHAT SPECIFIC AREAS ARE YOU INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING WITHIN JESSOP AND COOK ARCHITECTS?

I think architecture can have a hugely positive impact on people’s lives when it carefully listens to and addresses the needs of communities. My studies at University have focused on this; particularly in response to the housing and homelessness crisis, as my research proposal involved a hub for a Community Land Trust in Hull to offer quality, affordable, customisable housing to those in need.

It’s that kind of empathetic, people-centred design which I’m interested in developing at Jessop & Cook.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING IN YOUR SPARE TIME?

I play the trumpet, so spend a lot of my spare time playing and listening to music. Outside of that, I love going travelling with my girlfriend, and watching and reviewing films!
