Bullingdon Community centre

The community center is located at the Peat Moors recreation ground in the Lye Valley ward. The main building dates from the post war years. The site also includes: a children’s playground, all weather sports area with floodlights and a junior sized football pitch. Nearby is the Lye Valley nature reserve. The existing community centre is in regular use however the hall is showing visible signs of subsidence and is currently being supported by 7 props.

In 2017 Jessop & Cook developed a scheme to part demolish and renovate the existing building, however as the design developed, it became clear that keeping parts of the existing building was complicating the project without a positive outcome and the approach to the project was revised. A new planning application to demolish the existing building in its entirety to be replaced with a new, offsite fabricated building.

One of the key aims of the Bullingdon Community Centre is to improve the welfare of the local community. In response to the notion of ‘bridging the gaps in increasingly varied social communities’ connectivity in relation to people, space and surroundings became the conceptual driver behind the design process for the new community centre. The trustees of the community centre were involved in the design development of the project from project inception and a local Information event gave the local community an opportunity to comment on the design proposals.

The project was finished in 2022 and has been greatly contributing to the local community.
