Heritage Consultancy
Jessop and Cook have a wealth of experience working with historic and listed buildings; from University Colleges and landmark buildings, to manor houses or churches.
Our team includes a registered Conservation Architect (Dan Wadsworth) and a Heritage Consultant (Aline Bronkhorst), and these experts oversee every heritage project we are involved with. Their wealth of knowledge and experience allows us to understand the character of any historic building, and the careful considerations required when designing any interventions.
We can prepare a complete Heritage Statement, or provide you with some support as your project develops. These services include:
Research - the first step to designing any intervention in a historic building is to understand its history to ascertain its significance and character. This involves conducting site visits and consulting historic mapping, texts, archives, and books to create a schedule of significance.
Consultancy - we can work with clients and other architects as necessary to review proposals and advise the best design approaches to reduce any harm to historic fabric.
Heritage Statement - the above services can then be fed into a full Heritage Statement assessing the significance of the existing features, and the harm and benefits of any proposal. This is a requirement for any application for Listed Building Consent.
